The impact of technological advancements on front-line operations: The changing face of document fraud at the border

Biography

Mandie was appointed Chief Operating Officer for UK Border Force in May 2012. She is responsible for the effective operation of UK borders, with around 8000 officers deployed to 139 ports and airports across the UK and northern Europe, along with maritime and air surveillance capability.

From 2009 – 2012, as Director of Drugs Alcohol, Community Safety & Criminal Justice Reform, Mandie led across Whitehall on the development and implementation of the UK Drug and Alcohol Strategies. She was responsible for developing new approaches to criminal justice and support for local partnerships enabling effective policing and safer communities.

From 2007 – 2008 Mandie was Director of Leadership and Learning, responsible for driving up leadership capabilities and capacity across the Home Office. From 2004 –
2006, she was Director of Operations for UKvisas, responsible for administering and enhancing the UK immigration control to over 2.5 million visa applicants worldwide.

In May 2006 Mandie was asked to lead the Home Office response to the Foreign National Prisoners crisis, putting structures in place to ensure consideration for deportation before completion of custodial sentences, thereby restoring public confidence.

Mandie started her career as an immigration officer. She has worked in a range of ports and HQ operations with responsibility for intelligence development and systems, major business change programmes, strategic policy development and legislative reform.
